I can't figure out how to use GC to import my customers from our db app into Outlook. It looks like I can only go the other way. Am I missing something?

Thank you,

Hello,

you can sync both ways. What is exactly the problem?

Well, if I go into setup to the database tab, select outlook contacts, assign the table from our db app, map the fields, create a primary to the custnum field with no sql (since we don't want to push contacts from outlook into our db app, just the other way), I don't see how to initiate the process of pulling those contacts in. If I try "initial sync", it seems to be looking to sync contacts that already exist in both. The Synchronize Schedule tab is greyed out. I don't see where else I might accomplish this in GC.

What we're hoping to be able to do is create our client records in our db app as we bring them in, then use GC to pull them into Outlook. It seems that GC does this, I just can't figure out how.

Thank you.

you can use the toolbar button "Load All", (select the folder in Outlook and hit Load All button)

Auto sync, Auto Save etc.. are disabled in demo and private version.

Hmmm, it's grayed out too. Have I not completed something? This is just the demo I'm trying out.

Thanks,

is the folder selected in Outlook (folder with focus)?

Load item, Load all, Store item, Store all are only enabled when the selected folder is linked to a database table

Doh! Don't know how I missed that, must be farther down in the setup help file.

Anyway, that worked fine, except my address mapping didn't take. I can see them in the db if I check the "show db values in floating window" box. Any thoughts on what else I might be screwing up?

Thanks again.

Did you map Outlook Columns to Table columns and define a Primary Key?
Are you getting any error?
What DB are you using?

As per my second post, yes, I mapped the fields and defined the Primary Key. The only error I get is this is a demo version and can't sync more items. It wouldn't only partially sync the qty allowed in the demo, would it?

The db is an accounting app, Atrex, which we have installed an ODBC driver for.

So it is loading records from DB? the only error is the Max. record limitation in Demo mode?

Actually, it is loading the city, state and zip, just not the address lines.

Would it make any difference that almost all our contacts have the same city, state and zip?

"Would it make any difference that almost all our contacts have the same city, state and zip?"
NO

What Outlook columns is linked to the address line?

Oops, wait, if I look at "all fields" in outlook i see them. i guess i don't know the outlook field names that show up on the general tab. any pointers there?

thanks

To be specific, I mapped our db fields to outlook's business address: PO; Street; City; State; Postal Code. As I said, they show up on the "All Fields" tab but not on the "General" tab in Outlook.

Business address is displayed by default, but you can change that to Home,Other (Depends on Outlook version)

Ok, here's the deal:
Many addresses require 2 lines for the street address so I had chosen to map line 1 from our db app to Outlook's Business PO Box field and line 2 to Outlook's Business Address Street field.

I now see, by looking at the All Fields tab, that Outlook uses the street address field first and doesn't show the PO Box field at all on the General tab. I had been able to see the data from the db line 1 was importing ok, just into the wrong field to show up on the General tab.

So, I went back and re-mapped the db line 1 to Outlook's Business Street. Unfortunately, that has turned out worse. The data from db line 2 is showing up in Outlook Business Address PO Box correctly now but the db line 1 data which is now correctly mapped to Business Address Street is not showing up at all, in the All Fields tab or anywhere.

If I had to guess, I'd say the index for Outlook must be hosed from all the importing and deleting. Do you have any thoughts on what may be happening? If you agree it may be the indexes, any recommendations on fixing them? We're on Exchange so I don't think ScanPST will work.

Sorry to be a pain, I like the app and am really hoping we can get it to work, it would be a nice fit for our company and I can think of several of our clients who should be using it.

Thanks.

Matthew

I killed the original link and started a new one, doing it right from the ground up and it's working fine now. Proceeding to purchase page, nice product, thanks much.
