Hi,
We're testing your product.
In the OutlookConnect Configuration/Database setup, when we select a contact folder to connect it to our SQL Server database, no user-defined fields appear in the list of Outlook fields that are available to synchronisation (so before we link them to the DB items). Are user-defined fields not usable?
The other fields and the synchronisation works fine, but what do we do with the user-defined fields?
Thanks for your attention to this mail.

Thank you for your reply. So we can re-use Outlook-Contact-fields (eg. the User Field 1 etc.). But when we change the form from the standard Outlook form (eg. User Field 1 put on the General page) and import then the data from the SQL Server database, the original form layout is used again (even if the new published form is active as the form that should be used 'when posting to this folder'. Why is this? Are imported contacts always using the default form? Because that means, that I need to go to the tab 'all fields list' to visualize the User Field 1 ...
Thanks again.

It is in fact inherent to Outlook:
"Outlook saves the form design with each contact. The form design of existing contacts is not changed when a new form becomes the default form for a contact folder." But there is a work-around: the Microsoft Outlook 2000 "Existing Items Converter" (for folder-based conversion) and the Outlook 2000 "Forms Administrator" that let's you substitute a custom form for a default form instead of replacing forms on a folder-by-folder basis.
So the last one is a solution (seen from administrator perspective): the forms administrator allows to 'spread around' the new default form (as registry setting) to the users in the organisation.
The OutlookConnect uses then also while importing the 'new default form' (there is even no need anymore to change the form that should be used 'when posting to this folder' because the message class item (in our case the contact class) is 'replaced' on registry level). The forms administrator allows to switch it easily back to the default.
This as info.
