I think I understand your "best practices" set up, which seems to rely on an immediate DB update when an Outlook record modification or deletion is made (Auto Save on Outlook Item Change and Delete Database Resord when Outlook Item deleted).

Will this still work if I have others changing my Contacts? If not, is there a way to set up the sync so that more than one person can be modifying the Outlook Contacts Folder ?

yes, if it is an Exchange folder, the auto.save option works also if others are making the modifications.
