Go to the control panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel(-> Administrative Tools)) and open the ‘Data Sources (ODBC) ’ applet. When you’re running Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7/10 you can find it in the ‘Administrative Tools’. (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools)

To add a data source for the current user only, you have to use the ‘User DSN’ tab. To add a data source for all users using this computer, select the ‘System DSN’ tab.

GeniusConnect supports also File DSN.
File-based data sources can be shared among all users who have the same (network) drivers installed. These data sources need not be user-dedicated or local to a computer.

To add a File-based data, you have to use the ‘File DSN’ tab.

Microsoft Access
Press the ‘Add’ button to create a new data source. Select in the dialog the type of database (‘Microsoft Access Driver‘) and click the ‘Finish’ button.

The dialog that appears is the ‘ODBC Microsoft Access Setup’ dialog. To identify the data source you have to supply a name that describes the database (e.g. ‘GeniusConnect’ or ‘Contacts’).

After this the database have to be selected by pressing the ‘Select…’ button and selecting the database on your hard disk or network drive.

If the database is protected by a login name and password, press the ‘Advanced…’ button to specify the login information.

Now you can press the ‘OK’ button to complete the process.

The data source is ready to use.

Microsoft SQL Server
Press the ‘Add’ button to create a new data source. Select in the dialog the type of database (‘SQL Server’) and click the ‘Finish’ button.

To identify the data source you have to supply a name that describes the database (e.g. ‘GeniusConnect’ or ‘Contacts’). Also select the server on which SQL Server is running. Press the ‘Next’ button to continue to the next page. Set the authentication (Windows NT authentication or SQL Server authentication).

On the next page the default database can be selected. These are the most important settings to be made. After a couple of times pressing the ‘Next’ button and the ‘Finish’ button the data source is ready to use.

Other Databases
Press the ‘Add’ button to create a new data source. Select in the dialog the type of your database/ODBC driver and click the ‘Finish’ button.

The steps to create an ODBC data source are database specific.
